Hiking Bear Claw and lunch at Cedar Pockets - 1/12/2011

John at the highest point at Bear Claw Poppy Trail - who ever hikes up there adds a rock to the pile to represent that they made it to the top.  I also added my own rock but because of the heights I didn't stay there long enough to get my picture taken.

John always likes living on the edge!

Cedar Pockets

We had lunch along side the gravel rode at Cedar Pockets with an incredible view of the mountains and canyon!

Today the sun was out and not a cloud in the sky so we headed out around 9:00 and hiked the Bear Claw Poppy Trail - there are so many different trails out there that we don't have to hike the same trail every day which is so nice.  Anyway, today we went to the highest point on Bear Claw - it took us about 2-1/2 hours of hiking round trip.  What a view from there!

Afterwards we came back to the condo and packed a lunch and then headed out to drive thru the Virgin River Gorge and then go to Cedar Pockets.  This is BLM land and basically just a gravel road thru the valley and mountains with cactus and rock all over.  We stopped along the way where there was a little campsite that someone had previously used and we had our lunch there with an incredible view of the countryside.

We then came back to St. George and went to Walmart and picked up some groceries and came back to the condo - I am beat tonight.  We have been hiking every day and it feels good but I am tired.

Tomorrow we plan on packing a lunch and drive out to Snow Canyon and do a 4 mile hike there.  It is suppose to be in the low 50's tomorrow with clear sunny skies so it should be a great day again.

Our prayers and thoughts are with Cole as he spends his last month in Iraq.  I was so excited to hear that they are packing up there personal belongings already to get them ready to send home.  We can't wait until he is back in the USA.

Life is good!
